Today, in math class, we analyzed the incredible 23 game winning streak of the Golden State Warriors (NBA basketball). We found the margin of victory in each game and then found the mean, or average, margin of victory by adding all of the victory margins and dividing them by 23.

From this point, students were asked to complete a dot plot (or line plot) of these 23 data points for the margin of victory. To chart this, students are to make a dot plot that separates the plot into groups, or categories for each margin of victory. The categories are: winning by 1 to 5 points; 6 to 10; 11 to 15; 16 to 20; and then any victory by more than 20 points. (They won one game by 50 points!!!)

The same data and system was used to analyze the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls, who started out with 21 wins and 2 losses and went on to post an NBA best record of 72-10. Students are also to plot these margins of victories on a separate dot plot. From there, we will compare them in class on Thursday.

Math Homework:

Two separate dot plots showing data from the Warriors 23-0 start and the Bulls 21-2 start. (see above for details)
