The first two days of the 2016-17 school year are complete, and it has been really nice getting to know the new group of 6th graders! All of our students are getting used to the routines and procedures of the new classrooms, and starting to develop a sense of collaboration and teamwork by working together on classroom challenges. Today, we had a construction challenge: make the tallest tower out of straws, string, and tape to hold up and support a single marshmallow!!!

Routines:

We will switching classes throughout the day, with Math and Language Arts taught in the morning, and Social Studies and Science in the afternoons (I teach Math and Social Studies). Students will also rotate through their specials (Spanish, Art, Music, and Library) in five-week intervals, with classes 3 times per week. Both 6th grade classes are starting with Spanish for this first 5-week session. Gym and Health will be on the other two days of each week.

Announcements:

Please fill out and return the Emergency Information Form and Media Consent Form that were sent home yesterday in the large white envelope.

Vaccinations: there a number of vaccinations that need to be completed for each student by the 6th grade school year, along with evidence from your doctor. Many of our students are missing some of the required paperwork, so please put this on the radar as it will need to be turned in soon. I have a list of students who are not in compliance and will begin to send out notices to parents within the next week.

Moving Forward:

Homework: I will be assigning homework at least four times per week (starting next week). I will be posting all homework on this blog, which is an easy way to double check the student homework logs and to keep track of upcoming projects and assignments.
