Exciting news! We've worked diligently with CPS Leadership and the Chicago Department of Public Health officials to create athletic guidelines that will allow students at the elementary level to safely participate in cross country this fall.
During the season, each participating school will conduct practices and host two intrasquad school meets––one for students in fifth and sixth grades and one for students in seventh and eighth grades.
-The distance for intrasquad meets should be one mile for fifth and sixth graders and 1.5 miles for seventh and eighth graders. -Based on intrasquad meet times, it will be determined which school teams and individual athletes meet the qualifying standard to advance to one of four regional meets. At each grade level and gender (fifth/sixth boys, fifth/sixth girls, seventh/eighth boys, seventh/eighth girls), 24 teams consisting of five athletes each will advance to a regional meet. At each grade level and gender, 24 individual athletes (excluding those who have already qualified as part of a team) will also qualify to compete in a regional meet.
Cross country safety guidelines include:
-Protocols for social distancing
-Mandatory daily symptom screening and temperature checks
-The required use of cloth facial coverings by students and coaches when social distancing is not possible
-Fixed groups of up to 50 students and coaches for the entire fall season to limit both the size of gatherings and contact between students
-Cleanliness and sanitation protocols, including hand-washing or sanitation prior to all activities and throughout the day
The regular season at season at Ray will begin October 14th and conclude on October 27th. If your time qualifies, you will advance to a regional meet on November 1st, 7th, or 8th. Practice will be in the field/on the walk-a-thon path behind school.
If you would like to participate, you must complete:
-CPS Contact Information Form Contact Information
-CPS Parent Consent and Waiver Form Parent Consent and Waiver Form
-Student Registration Form Student Registration Form
The forms can be printed out at home, completed, and emailed to me at fwmcnaughton1@cps.edu. If you are not able to print the forms, you can pick them up from Ray between 8:45 and 3:45. ALL 3 FORMS MUST BE COMPLETED IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE!
Practice will begin on October 14th. A practice schedule will follow later this week based on the number of students participating. (There is a maximum number of students/coaches that can practice together)
