6th Math: Students will practice finding areas for parallelograms and triangles by determining the base and height dimensions of the shapes and using the area formulas. They will also work on a rotational tessellation project throughout the week.
5th Math: Students will learn how to classify 2D shapes based on their characteristics with respect to number of sides, types of angles and relative side lengths. They will also learn about different types of symmetry by building a tessellation based on rotations.
6th Science: Students will learn about environmental issues related to the access to fresh water in different parts of the world, and stressors on the natural water supply. They will study how creative, science-based solutions are helping in different climates: rain water collection in places like Mexico City and ice stupas in the foothills of the Himalayas.
