5th Grade Math: Our 5th grade students will continue our unit on Operations with Decimals. This week, they will be practicing long division problems that require decimal places to be added to the dividend (the number being divided). They will also be practicing decimal long division for dividends that already have a decimal in the number.
6th Grade Math: For Quarter 3, we are starting our study of the rules of algebra, starting with the identification of the variables, constants, terms, and coefficients in an expression. Throughout the week, students will learn how to 'read' simplify variable expressions and will begin to use the distributive property to make equivalent expressions.
6th Grade Science: We are learning about Natural Selection and how species evolve over time to better adapt to their environment. Students will learn about Charles Darwin and his studies of the animals on the Galapagos Island. They will also make connections to our everyday world, learning how pets and farm animals have been selectively bred to develop specific traits (consider the differences between a Great Dane and a Chihuahau).
