5th Math: Students will solve real world problems involving multiplication and division with decimals and fractions. They will apply recently learned skills of estimating, decimal multiplication and long division to make sense of multi-step problems. We will focus on key words in these problems that help to identify the required steps and operations.
6th Math: Students will learn how to write algebraic expressions to match statements about real world situations, including the evaluation of key words in a statement (sum, more than, difference, less than, product, quotient, twice, etc). They will use expressions to solve problems using x,y tables where different inputs lead to specific outputs and predictable patterns.
6th Science: Students will learn about how living things are classified into 6 kingdoms based on phylogeny, or how organisms are related through evolution. They will research the differences between these kingdoms, and within each kingdom, and study how this vast diversity of species developed over time to best survive in their specific ecosystems.
