Week 5 Curriculum Update

Here is a brief review of our Math and Science learning for the week of September 27 - October 1.

Mathematics:

Students are building upon their knowledge of Area for triangles and parallelograms to calculate more complex shapes that are made of 3 or more simple shapes. This process of breaking down shapes to find area will also included methods where areas need to be subtracted from the whole shape. The students will also be working on a design for a garden based upon the seedfolks book, where they layout the parts of the garden and calculate the areas for each zone.

Science:

Students will continue to learn about the structures of cells and the jobs that they perform within an organism. This week, students will continue to learn about the cellular of leaves, diving into the ways that the cells are organized to facilitate photosynthesis. They will work on a project where they draw and diagram the parts of the cell structure of the leaf, both on the surface, and enlarged to show the cross-section of the leaf.
